Hi @mrsjinthelibrary, thank you so much for leaving a public comment about the Free Seller Google Sheet and that you love the magic filter! You just made my day!

(I wasn’t sure the magic filter would work for other TPT sellers. I haven’t had a chance to test it out properly!)

Out of curiosity, is there anything you wish we could answer with our TPT data? It sounds like you’re my ideal customer avatar for the free Google Sheet tool! I create updates based on the questions Enrica asks me (and what other TPT Sellers ask in the YouTube comments.)

(I’m trying to only do YouTube comments on the weekend. You can see how well that’s working for me right now…)

See you in the next comment! Cheers, Mike

Hi again @SEOTpreneur ! So yes, the magic filter works, and I’m glad I got to try it out and watch the video on how to make it do the magic. 😀
I certainly have questions, but I’m not sure what I’m look for from those questions & potential answers. For example, I’ve been selling since 2012, so how can I control for that in my Product Stats?…and maybe I can’t since TPT is notably stingy with that info.
I’m pretty good at not making assumptions and see the data clearly for what it says, what it might say, and what it doesn’t….at least I’m as good as any other biased human, but that often leads me to analysis paralysis. I’m risk averse, so experimenting is hard for me when my actual FT income is on the line. In the past, what sold well was what I wanted to create & needed for teaching, because I was innovating in my own library classes, and always liked to do so. Now, the innovative things I made and make, which I know are using best practices and pedagogically sound, aren’t selling well at all.

@mrsjinthelibrary so many good points in this comment, that I’m going to reply separately as I find the time!

“I’ve been selling since 2012, so how can I control for that in my Product Stats?”

Unfortunately we can’t control for time in our product stats CSV. The best we can do as TPT sellers is download the data manually at different time points.

Eventually in a future version of the free TPT data analysis Google sheet, we’ll be able to compare different time periods. But at this point if the game, if you haven’t downloaded the product seller stats back in 2012, you’re out of luck.

(Also, wow! 2012! That’s incredible perseverance. I can only imagine the fear you have tinkering with proven best sellers because there’s more to lose!)

I’m not sure if TPT is stingy with not allowing us to download product stats CSV data for a specific date… or if it’s simply not a priority to upgrade their systems.

One possibility is that they don’t have a daily log of events (ie how many pageviews on a specific date)… but we’re able to see that data in graph form in the TPT seller dashboard… but maybe it’s querying a different database?)

My guess is in the initial design they wanted to keep things simple. Which is download the current product stats as of today.

But now as the platform evolves, it’d be nice to have more sophisticated TPT Seller data tools.

Have you had a chance to email TPT support about this being able to download TPT product stats CSV files for a specific date?

See you in the next comment! Cheers, Mike

Hey Paula, thanks for leaving a comment letting me know you think the “magic filter” is an amazing feature. It’s feedback like yours that tells me I’m going in the right direction. (Which means more free TPT data tools for everyone!)

By the way, I just updated the Google sheet TPT Seller Tool. It now has a crazy cool way to see which products are the vital few we should focus on (instead of the useful many.)

Just in the process of making the 80/20 YouTube video which might come out this weekend or next weekend!

See you in the next comment! Cheers, Mike

Your ideas are amazing. I love this tool. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I can add my data to the TPT Data CSV Sales Tab and everything populates correctly. When I add it to the TPT Product Stats Tab it’s all wonky. So I’m not able to access the 80/20 tool and nothing populates in the magic filter when I select a resource. I’m using the data I downloaded from the tool after I uploaded it all manually.

Hi @RippleKindness – Thank you so much for your kind words and for using the tool! It’s great to hear that you’re finding it amazing.

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with the “TPT Product Stats CSV” tab and the 80/20 tool and the magic filter. That must be frustrating. Let’s see if we can figure this out!

To set reasonable expectations for everyone reading this comment thread before we begin, I can respond to general questions in the YouTube comments and create YouTube videos with answers to questions. But I’m unable to look at a screenshot of the Google sheet (which is the easiest way to communicate and troubleshoot this type of issue.)

I need to practice being assertive and setting up boundaries with how I use my time. Thanks in advance for understanding! Here’s more information: https://seotpreneur.com/coaching/

2023-12-19 Edit: In today’s livestream, @matemaths copies her sales data from an old version of the google sheet tool and uses the Magic Filter tool. Does your screen look like hers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf-_sJqbDc0

I think I saw your YouTube comment when it originally came in during the week, but I’m now trying to only work on YouTube during the weekends. I thought your original message was that you could upload your TPT Sales Data into the “TPT Sales Data CSV,” but things went wrong when you exported and imported it back in.

Q1 Can you tell me how your Google Sheet looks different from the “Exporting your data to the latest version of the Free Seller Tool” here: https://afreesellertool.com/#exporting-your-data-to-the-latest-version-of-the-free-seller-tool

The “80 /20 tool” tab and the “4a. Magic Filter” tab use different CSV data.

Q2 To be clear, are you saying that when you upload your TPT Product Stats CSV into the “TPT Product Stats CSV” tab, the “80/20 tool” doesn’t work?

Or, are you saying that you’re not able to use the latest version of the Google Sheet tool with the 80/20 tool because when you import your “TPT Sales Data CSV” from your old Google Sheet tool, the “4a. Magic Filter” tab is no longer working correctly?

If this is the case, the most straightforward workaround would be to use the “A FREE Seller Tool.com v2023-12-02 (80/20 tool update)” only for your Product Stats CSV. Then, use the old version of the Google Sheet tool for your Sales Data CSV.

This might work because the 80/20 tool only needs the TPT Product Stats CSV.

Then, we can focus separately on figuring out why your “TPT Sales Data CSV” isn’t importing correctly into the latest version of the Free Seller Tool Google sheet.

“I can add my data to the TPT Data CSV Sales Tab and everything populates correctly… nothing populates in the magic filter when I select a resource.”

The tabs in the Magic Filter (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) are based on the our sales data that we upload into the “TPT Sales Data CSV” tab.

So, there are two possible problems.

Either 1) something went wrong with uploading the TPT Sales Data CSV or 2) something went wrong when we tried to select a filter on tab 4a.

This could be human error on your end (in using the tool) or human error on my end (in designing the tool based on my data.) I don’t mean that in a bad way – this is a fantastic learning opportunity for both of us. Let’s get the magic filter tool working for you, and I’ll learn how better to help other TPT sellers with the same problem!

My guess is that you got the TPT Sales Data CSV uploaded correctly, and that’s what you edited in the YouTube comment.

Q3.1 – Can I confirm that on the “TPT Sales Data CSV” tab, column X shows the months correctly, and there are no unusual glitches in that column?

(When you import data from an old version as a CSV, the formatting will change. )

Let me know if this helps!

See you in the next comment! Cheers, Mike
